Waunakee Public Library

2018  |  39,500 square feet

The Village of Waunakee is a fast-growing community located near Madison, Wisconsin. Population growth reignited a long-standing conversation regarding the need for a new, forward-thinking library. A brown-field site adjacent to the village’s Main Street District — along a creek and surrounded by a tree line — was selected as the future home of the new library. The team is currently developing schematic designs for the two-story building, which will have exterior plazas that relate to the picturesque creek and views of Main Street. Prior to beginning conceptual design, the design team facilitated a visioning session with approximately 30 stakeholders representing the library, Village officials, and key community members. The vision for the new library is an open, flexible design that contains an abundance of community space, collaborative areas, a maker space, and meeting rooms. This work was completed while at OPN Architects.
